John Evans
South Store (World Headquarters)
School Night Sessions in The Backroom
9:00 PM
$10
The John Evans Band is on fire and ready for a breakout. Fronted by veteran
honky-tonker John Evans, the band has a sound that smolders with raw heat.
Evans' remarkable voice handles it all, his haunting, tremulous falsetto
gliding with a devilish grin to a roaring growl. He plays off the eternal
dichotomy of salvation and damnation, marrying influences such as Buddy
Holly and the Cramps, Roy Orbison and Hank Williams. The John Evans Band
has had the privilage of opening for such headliners as Willie Nelson,
Waylon Jennings, Wayne Hancock and Hank Williams III. Mark Chamberland with
the Houston Chronicle writes, "With a sound that ranges from honky-tonk
country to rockabilly anthems like Pasa-Get-Down-Dena to out-of-control rock
'n' roll flameouts, Evans is seizing an enthusiastic audience."
