"Threadgill's service station was built the year I was born. We've both expanded because of Eddie Wilson. He built on to the place and he fed me. We're both content with the results. This is a lot more than just a cookbook, this book is a hoot!" - Anne Richards

"Just as Threadgill's in Austin is not your garden variety restaurant, this classic and cosmic volume from Armadillo World Headquarters is ever so much more than just another cookbook. The irrepressible Eddie Wilson serves up generous helpings of history, humor, and suppertime Southern comfort with all the pent-up energy of a prairie cyclone." - John Egerton

Threadgill's Restaurant in Austin is one of those places that a city has to have if it's got any gumption at all. One of Austin's beloved landmarks, this restaurant has seen a lot of history go by since it first opened in 1933. The establishment was originally a Gulf gas station and erstwhile late-night hot spot run by Kenneth Threadgill, who got to be better known for his yodeling prowess than for pumping gas. After Janis Joplin became a regular at the Wednesday night hottenannies, Threadgill's gained a reputation as a musical mecca.

Current owner Eddie Wilson - who had opened the now-legendary Armadillo World Headquarters in 1970 - bought the joint from Threadgill in 1981 and has been serving breakfast, lunch and dinner there ever since. Find out more - with recipes, anecdotes, and advice from Wilson himself.
